Mixing Church and State

The religious far right is growing and getting more powerful and unnerving, and we know the fights happening in schools board meetings. This 25 min. BBC video from earlier this year is instructive. It's telling that Patriot Mobile put millions of dollars behind school board elections, taking over politics from the bottom up, and Steve Bannon was there to explain that "the school boards are the key that picks the lock," looking to restrict access to books and bring God back - first in schools, and then into the federal government. And it's working in many American schools. One of their stated longterm goals: "I want a definition of marriage to what it's always been."  

Saw that coming.

Fox News is completely out now as the messenger of the far right, for better or worse. Once they support DeSantis over Trump, the far right completely turned on them. I wonder if that's why suddenly Fox is reporting that Covid still exists - they're no longer on the payroll of these wingnuts. 

The Turning Point Action Conference was on the weekend. See Steve Bannon's rant at 6:30 here -- that's the 6.5 hours mark. Here's a little snippet: 

"Old Man Murdoch knows you're about action, not talk. . . . You are the smartest people this country ever produced because you don't buy the bullshit." Then a bunch on Murdoch being a foreigner and rich, so not of the people like he is (Bannon's net worth is $20 million). And then on to child trafficking:

"I'm going to give you the sound of freedom on the 20th of January, in the year of our Lord, 2025, when Donald Trump takes his hand off the King James Bible, we're going into to every office/outfit, we're going in to the CIA, the FBI, the DNI, the CIA, all of them, and we're going to release every single person that either trafficked people or looked the other way to traffick people. We're going to put it all out for the American people. All of it. We're going to let the American people see how these kids got trafficked in the United States and who helped them. . . . We need names, and the American people are going to weigh and measure it. . . . This is a crusade! This a holy war against the deep state! Donald Trump is our instrument for retribution! . . . Donald Trump is our instrument for righteous indignation. . . . This is a jihad. . . . 

Before he even has a parade, he's going to do the following: He's going to declassify everything. We know the enemies are the Chinese communist party, the KGB, the mulas, and the administrative state. They're trying to keep the information from you! You are the most powerful force in the history of mankind! . . . We're going to release all the assassination files on John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Bobby Kennedy, and I'm gonna throw in two more for bonus: I'm gonna dump on George Wallace so we cover everybody, and take the file on Jeffrey Epstein and see who murdered him under Bill Barr. . . .  We're going to start with declassification of the 25 heroes that were CIA agents embedded in Beijing and throughout China that were murdered because a mole turned their names over. . . . It's all going to be declassified because the reason they classify it is to keep the information from you. Once you're empowered, there's nothing to stop you. And that is why Fox does not have this on."   

That's some good baiting. It's got a promise of being privy to intel, and having a voice on the outcome of what happens to child traffickers, and to be glorious in the eyes of God! The new president will basically commit treason so the public can be in the know, and there's going to be a parade!! He's already trying to avoid going to trial for mishandling classified documents; what's a few more? 

It might be funny seen from afar, but there are too many signs that it's hitting closer to home. We need to do everything to protect quality public education. This rhetoric is in the UK as well, fighting the liberal arts degree that can get people thinking about how the world works. 

I can't help thinking of the genocides that started by targeting universities. The well-educated are dangerous to this mob.
