From MPP Catherine Fife: "Ontario's Budget Officer has found that the Ford government failed to spend $7.2 billion of its budget last year, including $1.7 billion unspent on health as ERs are closing and surgery waitlists are growing."
Meanwhile, in just one specific case, three teens who were stabbed at a party in Clinton, Ontario, went to the ER, but it was closed. We have the funds to keep ERs open, but just don't want to spend it.
More and more I'm concerned with a very conspiracy-type idea that those in power, not just politicians, but also CEOs and all the very wealthy who don't really have a title besides being the son or daughter of a business magnate, are wittingly de-populating the country and disabling the survivors in order to better manage the food shortages likely coming from climate change. I wrote a bit about that last month.
I know how crazy that sounds, but I really can't understand why else Ford would sit on billions of dollars and shut down hospital emergency services for people at a time of greater need. If it's just about privatizing health services, then you'd think he'd have pay-for-service outlets set up for people to use instead of driving to the next town. But he doesn't.
Lizwhatsherface, always one to speak her mind, reinforced my concerns:"Rich people know everything is about to collapse. They're practicing Covid mitigations behind closed doors and telling you not to worry about it. Because when the food shortages start? They want everybody else to be sicker and worse off than them. Can't fight if you're dead. It's literally that simple. 'You don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun your slowest friend.' That's their plan.
And y'all refuse to stop partying because you don't think it's your 'job' to help us fight. It is your job. It is the only job that matters now.

The people who are trying to save us all? Team Reality? Not only are you not helping, but you are essentially shooting at us. You've lined up with the virus and with the rich. But instead, governments are funding more pipelines and destroying our future.
This has to change. I am far from the only person saying these things. If this is the first you're hearing of it? You have not been paying attention. But there's millions of us who have been. And we're keeping ourselves safe. And we have been organizing, this entire time. . . . Here is the best summary I've found so far of what's going on and how we got to this point. . . . [In July 2023], everyone who meets with the president is tested beforehand.
Here's what we know, for sure: Covid messes with your system in a way that's completely different than a cold or flu. A very mild or asymptomatic case can turn deadly on a dime, or you can be left to linger in bed for literally YEARS without anything more than painkillers to help you maybe sit up for ten minutes at a time. It's about a one in TEN chance of getting Long Covid whenever you get infected. Good quality masks work or else the very wealthy and well connected wouldn't make the people around them keep wearing them!
What many of us suspect: They need to say it's not an emergency to prevent litigation claims. They keep it out of mainstream news to get everyone back to work to keep people consuming and to keep businesses on site in their buildings so the commercial real estate market doesn't collapse now that many people discovered they can be more productive - and happier - working from home.
What a few of us are starting to think: The billionaire class wants people to be too disabled or sickly or dead to take them out of competition for limited resources in the very near future.
Is the thrill of dining out, or the convenience of being at work without a mask, worth a life of disability?
We need you to keep yourself safe from this vascular, brain-invasive virus to help fight against the willful incompetence and corruption of the billionaire class.

I don't think it's a conspiracy-type thing at all, just an alignment of interests. George Carlin succinctly identified the problem years ago:
Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the senate, the congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else.
You've reached reasonable conclusions on the lack of general Covid countermeasures. Now, ask yourself why every major corporation, NGO, and government organization requires employees to take DEI training. Would they do that if they thought this training would achieve equity? Or is it more likely that the goal is to pit peon against peon to distract from the "increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it?"
What's crazy is that this doesn't sound that crazy.
@Cap - I heard that Carlin sentiment over and over for decades, but it's only recently that I've really, thoroughly, believed it. Before Covid, I harboured illusions that I might actually be closer to the top than the bottom of the hierarchy.
Me too, Marie. But I recently did some work for a multi-billionaire and realized that my humble abode wasn't in the same universe as his places in NY,
Toronto and LA, and estates in Spain, the south of France, Hawaii and Bali. Oh, and let's not forget the yacht appointed like a floating palace. You don't amass that kind of scratch with any kind of commitment to equity.
My gut-punch moment was not being allowed to wear an N95 at work - we had to wear their masks, level 2 surgical masks. And I realized, they don't care if their staff (including me!) get this virus. We had to sneak in our N95s past the cameras!!
